Earlier this year Melbourne legend Jonny Telafone released Romeo Must Die, one of the year’s most exciting local records and an LP our Tone Deaf writer described as “melding together the original suave elements of funk, soul and dance, the wizard Telafone tosses the traditional notion of RnB into his bubbling cauldron with monster-like synths, menacing drumbeat and percussions and almost goth vocals to create a futuristic dark RnB record.”

This Saturday Telafone will be taking his  dark retro-futuristic RnB across the country on his national album tour, and to celebrate he’s curated a five track mix. Check it out below and be sure to check out Jonny when he rolls into your town. Tickets and info via Facebook

New Waver – ‘At Seventeen’
Someone must have said to New Waver “life isn’t fair, get over it,” but instead of getting over it they engaged in an epic study of the science of unfairness. What makes a loser a loser? Only countless hours spent alone listening to New Waver will bring you anywhere close to an answer.

Jan Terri – ‘Baby Blues’
Jan Terri obviously has a sense of humour about herself but she also has some seriously great songs. I saw this foul clip from the Daily Show where they interviewed her and made fun of her for being real. Fuck that. I’d love to have a drink with her and talk shop. I especially love her country style songs and this film clip is so sweet.
Earl Sweatshirt – ‘Grief’
How can you not like something called,”I Don’t Like Shit,I Don’t Go Outside”. He just gets better and the further he goes into the weird dank world he is creating, the further away he gets from being a bratty teenage celebrity which is definitely a good thing. Excellent film clip too.
TISM – ‘Greg, The Stop Sign’
Forget imagining all the people living in harmony, the lyrics of Greg The Stop Sign are more universally true than any song I’ve ever heard.
Forces – ‘Overland (In My Mind)’
I love this song and film clip. In case you missed the memo sci-fi is now officially cool…get into it.
