If you loved The Beards, then it’s time to meet your new favourite joke supergroup, The Durries, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, yes, all of their songs are about cigarettes.

What’s more, they’re a bonafide supergroup, comprised of eight members from Boss Moxi, Twin Haus, and Baskervillain. The Durries love durries, plain and simple and they don’t discriminate – just look at their catalog.

Their ever-expanding discography of tracks includes instant classics like ‘Winfield Blue’, ‘Port Royal’, and first single ‘Marlborough Gold’, which the band assures all have that same trademark quality as the darts they’re named after.

To record their debut EP, an ode to their shared love of a good ciggie, the band bunkered down over 24 hours with six cartons of beer and “more pouches of Winnie Blue than you could poke a (cancer) stick at”.

While the band’s schtick might seem tongue-in-cheek, their lyrics are oddly poetic. ‘Marlborough Gold’ is a heartfelt tune that any smoker can relate to, with lyrics like, “There’s nothing I’d rather kill myself with than a Marlborough Gold“.

Only three gigs in, including support slots for Brisbane staples Wolver and Le Suits and with an upcoming performance supporting The Peep Tempel, The Durries will be no doubt be bringing their unique brand of “Cig Pop”, “Emphysema Rock”, whatever you want to call it, to a smokers area near you soon.
