It’s the reunion everyone in the UK and those still keeping the dream alive Down Under has been waiting for and it looks as though it may be finally happening. Or not, and this is just another case of UK tabloids having a slow news day.

However, it must be said that this particular case of Oasis reunion news does come with a lot more details than usual, though we must say we still fairly skeptical, coming as it does from the UK’s Daily Mirror who cite a “well-placed source”.

As NME reports, with Blur about to release their first album in 12 years, a Britpop revival could be about to take the world by storm, with the Daily Mirror suggesting that Noel and Liam Gallagher have reached a “gentleman’s agreement” to reform Oasis next year.

The band famously split on less than friendly terms back in 2009 after a long-beleaguered Noel finally refused to work with infamous brother any longer. The band broke up after an argument preceding a performance in France.

However, recently the two have seemingly been patching things up. Last month, Liam posted a photo of himself holding a backstage pass to one of Noel’s gigs to Twitter, while Noel publicly encouraged his younger brother to record a solo album.

While a potential reunion is far from official, the Mirror quotes a source as saying, “It’s early days in terms of the details, but Noel and Liam are back on good terms and ready to give things another go. Nothing is signed but it’s what you might call a gentlemen’s agreement between them.”

“Ultimately they’re family and whatever has gone on before can be sorted out – they’re very close beneath all the bluster.” The source’s quotes come as Noel revealed in January that he would be open to the idea of a reunion, though only for financial reasons.

“If I was ever going to do it, it would only be for the money,” he said. “This isn’t me putting it out there, by the way. Would I do it for charity? No way. We’re not that kind of people. For Glastonbury? I don’t think Michael Eavis has got enough money.”

“But would we get back together one day? As long as everybody is still alive and still has their hair, it’s always a possibility. But only for the money,” the notoriously outspoken songwriter, who’s been enjoying a successful solo career, added.

According to the Mirror, Liam’s motivations may also stem from a desire to kickstart his own music career after the break-up of his Beady Eye project. The band disbanded in 2014 after five years and two albums, both of which received lukewarm receptions.

“Noel’s solo career has been a huge success with number one records and sold-out arena tours but Liam hasn’t been able to match that with Beady Eye,” said the source. “He is ready to try and put their differences behind them in order to get back on stage together with the band now that Beady Eye have split up.”
