For those looking forward to seeing Daniel Johns first live solo gigs at the Sydney Opera House this May for Vivid LIVE, you can now get a taste of what you’re in for with this newly unveiled footage from the Silverchair frontman’s recent performance at the 2015 APRA Awards.

Johns, whose won more APRA Awards than any other Australian artist, performed ‘Preach’, the opening track from his debut solo EP, backed by an extravagant band and showing off some of his rarely seen dance moves, while adorning himself with more bling than Rick Ross.

As Tone Deaf noted in our review of Aerial Love, Johns’ first solo pursuit is the Australian rock icon “at his most free”, bringing together an EP of soulful slow-burners characterised by a throbbing drum beats, gliding synths, and Johns’ smooth falsetto.

Johns is expected to be one of the highlights of the upcoming Vivid LIVE program, which is also set to feature performances from indie icon Morrissey, experimental vanguards TV On the Radio, Aussie pop rock favourites The Preatures, and the Melbourne Ska Orchestra.
