Having enjoyed success with their ‘Earth Invaders’ video game last year, Byron Bay metalcore favourites In Hearts Wake have now followed it up with ‘Skyhoppers’ to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated new album, Skydancer, on Friday, 1st May.

‘Earth Invaders’ was, of course, a charming take on the arcade classic Space Invaders, ‘Skyhoppers’ is, somewhat tragically, a take on a 2014 video game phenomenon that everybody would rather forget. Yes, it’s Flappy Bird. Play it right here, at your own peril.

After choosing your avatar, you see your favourite member of In Hearts Wake take shape as an eagle. You are then tasked with navigating through cloud barriers to the sound of Skydancer lead single ‘Breakaway’.

If you make it through 30 barriers, you unlock the album track ‘Insomnia’ and get to hear it before the album is released. Of course, actually making it through 30 barriers on ‘Skyhoppers’ is about as easy as doing it on Flappy Bird. In other words, get ready to pull chunks of your hair out.

However, if you manage to master the game and earn the highest score by 1st May, possibly via some form of wizardry, you will win a rare vinyl test pressing of In Hearts Wake’s Skydancer, which has nabbed a spot as next week’s Triple J Feature Album.
