Are you an up-and-coming musician who wants to start gigging but not sure where you can perform? Or are you interested in playing host to live music in your home or establishment but have no idea how to reach out to bands? Never fear, there’s now an Australian based website that can hook you up with a venue or artists at the click of a button.

Introducing the genius initiative from Melbourne based singer-songwriter Matt Walters, Parlour, a website solely dedicated to directly connecting bands, live music venues and fans to create special gigs in and around Australia, as The New Daily reports.

The website functions very much like the mammoth accommodation website, Airbnb, and is just as easy to use. For any party interested in playing or hosting a gig, you simply visit the site and follow the very basic prompts that ask for your basic details and await response from the website, which hooks artists up with a venue that could be anything from a backyard to a bandroom.

For all you potential punters, don’t worry, you’re included in this too. Simply join the mailing list and you’ll be the first to know of any upcoming gigs popping up around your city showcasing up-and-coming talent.

Walters detailed the game-changing new site, “(It’s) not dissimilar to the Airbnb (accommodation booking) model: cutting out the middlemen and allowing people to negotiate and stage gigs where they like.”

Going on to explain the catalyst behind Parlour, “from being signed to a major label, to touring with some incredible international artists, I’ve certainly experienced all the ups and downs the music business has to offer. But for some time now, I’ve felt a change coming on. Of course, with the traditional music model well and truly behind us, there is more emphasis than ever on playing live.

“For most musicians – especially those up and coming – it’s hardly worth it. The experience of playing a great show can be a reward unto itself, but at the end of the day artists, like all working people, need to get paid for their work.” Noting of the actual pricing behind Parlour, they charge $10.00 per ticket at a show, with the artist taking home 90 percent of that ticket price.

The killer new movement has already seen established acts including Thelma Plum, Caitlin Harnett and Grand Salvo all perform, as well as a slew of rising local talent, “many of the artists that perform at our events are unknown by most of the guests – so it’s the perfect way to introduce your music and create new and dedicated fans” Walters closed, excitedly.
