Sydney’s Come Together is on the eve of its return for 2015, complete with two awesome lineups featuring some of Australia’s best in hip-hop and indie rock, including Seth Sentry, Ball Park Music, Thundamentals, The Jungle Giants, and more.

Set by the Harbour in Luna Park, with unlimited rides passes for all attending, Come Together is a an all-Aussie music-lovers playground open to all revellers 13+ who are looking to enjoy two awesome days of music in an exciting venue.

What’s so interesting about Come Together is its unique approach to hosting different genres. The first day of the festival – Saturday, will be dedicated to showcasing some of Australia’s brightest hip-hop talent, including Seth Sentry, Thundamentals, Horrorshow, Remi, and Coin Banks. While Sunday will be catering to indie fans, with appearances from Ball Park Music, The Jungle Giants, and SAFIA.

But that’s not all. Each lineup will also be complimented with a very special Triple J Unearthed winner, who will be opening each day.

We caught up with the General Manager  of Events at the Big Top Gary Grant, to chat about the return of the festival and the motive behind making it a two day split genre event.

Bringing It Back For 2015

“The decision was made last year when the availability of the awesome line-up for this year was looking likely.”

“Come Together started as a two day event in 2005 and ran over two days for the first five years. Come Together is about the  best of the new and upcoming acts for a very affordable ticket price and remains as an all ages show which allows the 13+  fans  to check out these great bands. We had been considering  returning to two days for a few years but the artists for a 2nd day were simply not available whereas this year, they were.”

The Reasons For The Genre Split

“The pros are that the fans get a chance to see one or two days of great music for a reasonable ticket price (which also includes use of the Park’s rides if they wish) , and I guess the cons are its double the work and cost and risk  putting it together. Being a boutique festival held inside  the Big Top  means we are not weather affected  and what a great way to spend an arvo / evening in winter!

The social media contact from the fans this year has been amazing, so positive and interestingly,  the sales for discounted tickets for entry for both days two days are strong.”

When asked would the same lineup work if it wasn’t divided by genre, all happening on the same day? Grant answered “I believe it would.  Australia is so lucky to have triple J as the fans are into great music and great live artists and not bothered by genres.”

Any Reservations About Implementing The Concept?

“The main reservation was to keep the changeover times on the Sunday where there is more backline equipment involved, as short as possible to keep the pace of the day moving. But the  production companies and crew an involved are Australia’s best so it should work well for the fans.”

But conceptually there was “none at all, especially when we sent the line ups to triple j who loved both days and artists and we can’t thank them enough for their many years of supporting Come Together.”
