Perth’s very own State Of The Art (SOTA) festival is on this Saturday the 30th May as part of the WA Day long weekend events at Perth Cultural Centre.

As we all know, some of the nation’s greatest musicians have been hailing from the west side (see: Tame Impala, Pond, Birds Of Tokyo, You Am I, Love Junkies, too many more to mention) so it only makes sense that the home of all this incredible talent, hosts a festival celebrating it.

That’s what SOTA is, a party hosted in Perth spotlighting and celebrating West Australian talent, and is nothing to sneeze at. Legendary figures You Am I will be sharing the Museum stage with Katy Steele and Birds Of Tokyo, while producers Lower Spectrum and Sable will be brining progressive electronic soundscapes to the State Theatre Centre Courtyard Stage, just across the road from the Urban Orchard Stage where psych rockers Mt. Mountain and Hideous Sun Demon will send you into outer-sonic-space.

Essentially SOTA boasts one of best Aussie festival line ups of 2015, and to help navigate it, Music Programmer for the festival, Luke Rinaldi has put together a ‘must not miss’ cheat sheet for the day featuring his insider’s tips on the most exciting acts at the festival. Check it out below and don’t miss SOTA celebrating the best of the west.

Rob Snarski

The Melb-based frontman of The Blackeyed Susans has the greatest voice in the world, of all time, end of story.

Rag N Bone

Great band who’s best days are still to come – amazing set of vocal pipes and love that bass sound live.

The Scientists

They’re pretty much the beginning of whatever punk-rock legacy is with us now – for me, anyway – with a sphere of influence spreading all around the globe. And drummer James Baker’s getting married the week after…is this his bucks party?

Gareth Liddiard

The Drones frontman hasn’t treated Perth to his solo show as much as other parts of the country, so don’t miss this chance. We’ve made sure he doesn’t clash with his old Gutterville Splendour Six band-mate Maurice Flavel, who’s playing on the Wetlands stage.

The Weapon Is Sound

They never do a bad show and will really suit the Wetlands stage at that time of the night.

Katy Steele

Always loved Katie’s songwriting, voice and stage persona – from Little Birdy days to solo performances. Really looking forward to seeing the new band.

Mt Mountain

A strong candidate for best Perth band of the last couple of years.

Downsyde

Great to see them back – absolute pioneers and champions for hip-hop in WA. Without them many later stars never would have thrived.

The Holy Rollers

I have three significantly older brothers, and on the occasions they’re back in Perth for Christmas, it’s generally “Parade” by Spandau Ballet, “Songs From The Big Chair” by Tears For Fears and the Telethon 75 compilation that get a workout on the record player. After that it’s usually The Holy Rollers.
