Having played every conceivably wacky character one could think of, Bill Murray is now taking on the one role that we can tell you from personal experience, dear readers, attracts the wackiest characters of all – band manager.

Yes, as Consequence of Sound reports, the comedy legend will play a beleaguered music manager in his upcoming film, Rock The Kasbah. The dramedy is set in Afghanistan and has him starring alongside Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, and Bruce Willis.

According to the official synopsis, Rock The Kasbah tells the story of Richie Lanz (Murray), a talented rock manager who’s fallen on hard times. When he takes his last remaining client (Deschanel) on a USO tour of Afghanistan, she gets cold feet and leaves him penniless and without his passport in Kabul.

As he attempts to find his way back home, Lanz befriends a group of local misfits and discovers a young girl with an extraordinary vocal gift. “Against all odds”, Richie takes his last shot at creating an unlikely superstar. And, y’know, finds redemption and blah, blah, blah.

Considering this is a sort-of rock flick, we’re expecting to hear some sweet tunes. The trailer, which you can check out below, features excerpts from David Bowie and Harry Nilsson, as well as a rendition of Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ courtesy of Murray himself.

Speaking of the trailer, it gives us some second thoughts about the film. Don’t get us wrong, we love us some Bill Murray, we can’t wait to see him as a band manager, and there’s even some pleasant, feel-good vibes in the trailer, but let’s hope Rock The Kasbah isn’t as culturally patronising as the trailer makes it out to be. Fingers crossed.
