The latest development in the ongoing saga that is MIA’s publicity hound lifestyle is that she is facing deportation from the USA. UK born, Sri Lankan raised MIA has been based in New York City for the last few years but is having issues with getting a permanent visa. Her fiancé happens to conveniently be the ‘uber radical street ghetto’ musician Benjamin Bronfman, the son of millionaire Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. She gave birth to their son, Ikhyd, at a Los Angeles hospital last year so he is also American, but apparently the US Immigration Department isn’t a fan of her pseudo-politically provocative lyrics and her old man’s alleged links to the Tamil Tigers.

Friends are trying to talk her into a quickie wedding of convenience to get a Green Card, but funnily enough, she’s being characteristically stubborn and refusing. “I actually want a nice wedding,” she argues.”I’m not going to blow that.” She won’t countenance a shotgun wedding, saying “That’s what they want me to do … I’m not going to lose my integrity for that shit … If they’re gonna kick me out, it’s going to be a fight. [And] it’s an important fight to have.”
