Having released his impress debut album Nicaragua Nights in May this year (out via Create/Control) the talented and progressive multi-instrumentalist/ producer Oisima has been kicking goals left right and centre of late.

He recently dropped the single ‘Take Your Time’ which features reimagined house leanings, slow burning hooks and rich, melodic layers luring listeners from Oisima’s usual sunlit jazz straight to the dance floor in the middle of a humid summers night. It’s a much darker, sensual side from the Adelaide artist who has already been winning over a global audience in 2015 and who recently performed to sold out audiences across the country on the national Bonobo tour

In celebration of the recent album and single release we caught up with Oisima to chat about his favourite Aussie talents right now, and his picks are pretty impressive. Check them out below.

Baro

“Baro is the best thing that has happened to Australian hip-hop for me in a long long time. It’s oozing in the classic ’90s vibes I adore similar to guys like People Under The Stairs and Lootpack. I’m so excited to see where his music takes him and  hopefully work with him on some music in the near future.”

Kirkis

“Kirkis blows my mind into a million different pieces everytime I see him/them perform live. On the same tip as Hiatus the way Kirkis works and stretches the perception of melodic
structure is something of a music-gasm for my soul. Seriously on of my favourite acts in the world.”

Hiatus Kaiyote

“I love everything Hiatus Kaiyote do, every little part of every song off every album. The musicianship, song writing, soulfulness that comes through in their music is something i’m constantly letting wash over me on a daily basis and I will never tire of.”

Retiree

“These are some of my closest friends and I love this band so so much! Understated, timeless sound that just makes me wanna dance in my underpants like Napolean Dynamite in that closing scene.”

How Green

“How Green is a producer from Adelaide I adore. His wonky, hypnotic beats are incredible and I cannot wait to hear where his music goes next. Seriously someone to keep a close eye on if you’re not already aware of his music.”

I’lls

“This band is absolutely amazing. Everytime I see them on the same festival bill it makes me so happy. Duelling synths and classic drum machine sounds I can’t get enough of these guys!”

Silent Jay

“Silent Jay has the illest drums in the Australian beat scene. Everytime I hear his music I get the same ‘I feel like my neck is about to snap’ feels from the smack of his music. Stunning new soul music from one of the nicest guys getting around. I gotta lotta love for Jay!”
