Every day, we here at Tone Deaf get inundated with emails from budding young music writers. Some want to submit a review or pitch us an idea, others are interested in becoming a contributor, and some just want advice about breaking into music journalism.

This video of an exchange between recently minted Norhtlane vocalist Marcus Bridge and a US interviewer would be a good place to start. It illustrates in excruciatingly awkward detail how not to go about conducting an interview or doing anything at all ever.

Of course, this isn’t a real interview, but rather a brilliant sketch by US comedian Jarrod Alonge. Reminiscent of when Chris Farley used to interview celebrities on SNL, Alonge goes to pain-staking lengths to make this the most uncomfortable video you’ll watch today, but also the funniest.

Northlane have had a tumultuous but exciting 12 months. After longtime vocalist Adrian Fitipadles departed the metalcore outfit last year, the band recruited Bridge, recorded a new album, and recently revealed that they’ll soon be announcing an Australian tour.
