Okay, so writing about music festivals and gigs and all of that is kind of our thing. We hear about them, we get excited, and we write about them. It’s a pretty standard process for us and there’s only been one that just made us roll over laughing.

Make that two. Yes, next month The Lord Gladstone in Sydney will be hosting Boxfest. If you’re wondering just what that is, it’s an event to pay respect to that greatest of Aussie inventions – the good bag.

Even the promoters of the event are incredulous about the whole thing. They recently took to the official Lord Gladstone Facebook page to write, “This is a thing that is actually happening.” It sure is and we actually can’t wait for it.

We don’t know what’s going to happen, but have every reason to suspect there might be a goon bag or two being tossed around. According to the Facebook event page, Boxfest will feature “Yalumba, Stanley, Berry and Romano” casks.

To make sure your stay in “goon bag flavour country” is a most pleasant one, there’ll be cheese and cabanossi plates and other snacks during the day and you can party with the knowledge you’re doing something good as all money raised through the sale of “tasting tokens” will go to charity.

As for the music, Money For Nothing DJs will be spinning the soundtrack, so you know there’ll be plenty to dance to on the day. If you wish to celebrate one of Australia’s greatest inventions head down to The Lord Gladstone on Sunday, 5th July.
