Any time we get to write about the opening of a new live music venue in Australia is a good day and it’s even better when it’s situated in one of the country’s live music hubs. As The Music reports, a new live music venue will soon launch in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond.

The Richmond Theatrette is a little-known venue located inside the city-adjacent suburb, which also boasts venues like The Corner Hotel. The venue is set to host a string of exciting shows during next month’s Leaps & Bounds Music Festival.

The festivities are set to kick off with two performances from Sydney songwriter Perry Keyes on Saturday, 11th July and Sunday, 12th July, with local favourite Nick Batterham joining Keyes on the opening night and duo Jack Howard and Nicky Del Ray performing on the second.

Among the other artists slated to hit the stage are Ashley Naylor, frontman of Aussie indie band EVEN, performing a rare solo show, country-pop duo The Grapes, Melbourne’s own The Fauves, and local songsmiths Ross McLennan & The New World and Ben Mason.

The Leaps & Bounds shows are set to conclude Sunday, 19th July with a performance from EVEN and special guests The Jangle Band. However, organisers have confirmed that the venue will go on to host more live music even after Leaps & Bounds wraps up.

“Richmond Theatrette will be a wonderful music venue for music lovers – an intimate atmosphere, a great-sized stage, in a convenient inner city location,” event organiser Justin Naylor told The Music.

“It is a pleasure to be able to showcase a wealth of underrated Australian songwriting talent over a week of Leaps & Bounds Festival shows.” Naylor is enthusiastic about the venue’s future, saying music fans can look forward to many successful shows filling the new space.

“[The Richmond Theatrette] promises to fill an important niche in providing a fan-friendly environment to see quality local talent.” Tickets for the Leaps & Bounds shows are on sale now. More details can be found over at the festival’s official website.
