Glastonbury 2015 recently wrapped up and as we’ve covered here at Tone Deaf, it was a particularly awesome year for the UK’s flagship music festival. There were plenty of highlights, lots of action from the solid Aussie contingent, and even a few laughs for good measure.

However, there’s always that one dickhead who has to spoil it for the rest of us and no, we’re not talking about Kanye West, who put on a well-received performance despite an ill-advised cover of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and a stage-crashing incident. However, it certainly concerns him.

Glastonbury punters are notoriously touchy about who’s headlining the festival and the announcement that Kanye West would be closing out the event did not get a warm reception from a certain portion of ticket-holders, some of whom launched a petition to see him removed from the bill..

Now, this kind of thing is all in good fun, really. After all, what is the point of an artist if they’re not stirring controversy and dividing the public? Even the selection of veteran rockers Metallica was a controversial choice last year.

However, the response to West’s headlining spot got kind of nasty. As The Independent reports, an unidentified Glastonbury punter’s banner featuring an explicit still from Kim Kardashian’s sex tape is getting serious heat online for being misogynistic and disrespectful.

Kardashian, who is married to West, was in attendance at Worthy Farm over the weekend to watch her husband headline the Pyramid Stage. This seemingly prompted one punter to bring a large flag, common at the festival, depicting the reality TV star performing oral sex.

The flag also featured the words, “Get Down, Girl, Get Head Get Down”, emblazoned across it, an apparent reference to West’s song ‘Gold Digger’. An image of the “repugnant” flag was shared by one festival-goer on Twitter, with hundreds retweeting and sharing their thoughts.

While some have written it off as a hilarious joke, others are taking it much more seriously. As one Twitter user wrote, “Fuck that Kim Kardashian flag at Glasto. The joke is basically, ‘Woman has previous sexual partner, hilarity ensues.'”

Guardian columnist Laura Bates labelled the flag “a particularly nasty attack”, writing, “What do you give the woman who has everything? A short, sharp reminder that she can still be torn down at any moment.”

“Many online were quick to share their glee, describing the flag as ‘the BEST Glastonbury flag ever’, ‘flag of the day’, ‘#BESTEVER’, ‘genius’ and ‘hilarious’… thoughtful users tweeted it into Kardashian’s mentions to be sure the picture be waiting for her when she got home.”

This is only the most recent case of misogyny on display at a popular music festival. Back in April, a Coachella punter made headlines when he was snapped donning a T-shirt that said “Eat. Sleep. Rape. Repeat.”
