Splendour-bound Blur frontman Damon Albarn recently had a run-in with the music festival authorities after the consummate showman decided the show wasn’t over until the audience decided it was over.

As Pitchfork reports, Albarn had to be literally carried off stage by a security guard during a performance at Denmark’s famous Roskilde Festival with the Africa Express Project. A performance, it should be noted, which lasted five hours.

However, despite the marathon length of his set and despite being told at around 4am that he had to cease his performance, Albarn promptly decided, “Fuck that”, and kept on going, leading the crowd in a performance of The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’.

“You want more, yeah?” Albarn asked the crowd. Albarn then encouraged the crowd to keep making noise. “Fuck what anyone says. You want more, we’re going to give you more.” The security guards were less than amused with Albarn’s display.

Despite spirited chants for “More!” from the Roskilde crowd, a security guard came out onto the stage, picked Albarn up, and carried him off stage amid jeers and boos from the crowd. Readers can check below for video of the incident.

During his Roskilde set, Albarn was joined by Songhoy Blues, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Jeff Wooten, and Seye Adeklan as part of Africa Express, an organisation who bring together musicians from different cultures, continents, and genres.
