We recently covered all of the action our awesome Aussies got up to at Glastonbury, the UK’s most iconic music festival. For many, the festival is a rite of passage to the big time and with a healthy contingent of Aussies on the bill, things are looking good for the future.

However, it’s not just the bands that hit up Worthy Farm that are doing big things outside of Australia. Everywhere we look, we’re seeing homegrown bands and solo artists kicking goals in other markets, including bonafide superstars like Courtney Barnett, whose star just keeps rising.

In order to get everyone up to date with what’s been happening for our Aussie musicians abroad, we’ve decided to compile a scrapbook of highlights from the overseas tours, support slots, and festival dates, as well as the various antics our Aussies have been up to.

Courtney Barnett

Has there been a single bigger breakout success story in the Australian music industry than Courtney Barnett? We certainly don’t know any. The Melbourne-based songwriter just keeps going from strength to strength, even scoring a nod for best song of the year so far.

Following several acclaimed performances on US television and a highly praised appearance at SXSW, Barnett was very recently confirmed as the support act for Britpop giants Blur when they hit up Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl later this year – that’s huge.

In Hearts Wake

These Byron Bay metalcore legends have been garnering acclaim ever since they dropped their third album, Skydancer, earlier this year, amping up hype for the release via an ingenious viral marketing campaign years in the making.

The band are currently enjoying the sights, sounds, and fruits of Europe and by the looks of things, it seems the European heavy music fans are absolutely loving what our boys have to offer. These snaps from the band’s Holland tour are truly epic.

Ahhhh Netherlands, that was a special day! We met so many new people walking out and about the festival today. Stoked to…

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

Having spent the last couple of months wowing their American fans, prolific psych collective King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have now set their hazy sights on Europe, where they’ve been whipping crowds into a frenzy wherever they go.

We recently covered the very warm reception the band received at the UK’s iconic Glastonbury festival and it looks as though the good vibes are following the group wherever they go. The band most recently hit up Roskilde festival and France’s iconic Moulin Rouge.

WHAT THE FUCKKK GLASTO!!!

Tkay Maidza

Tkay Maidza has long been talked about as the next big breakout star of the Australian hip-hop scene and it seems the Adelaide native is poised to exceed all expectations, having thrilled crowds at SXSW and recently embarking on a string of dates in Europe.

The young rapper recently returned to the country in preparation for an eagerly anticipated appearance at Splendour In The Grass. As soon as she touched down, she was met with headlines declaring her the next Iggy Azalea.

Played in Scotland last night! The Years & Years tour has been so much fun so far 󾇛󾭩

Vance Joy

We’ve written a lot about all the ways in which Vance Joy has been taking over the world. He’s got a hell of a plan, having closely allied himself with Taylor Swift (y’know, the biggest pop star on the planet right now?) and serving as support for her 1989 tour.

What’s more, in a new interview with Billboard, he’s revealed he’s adjusting just fine to the superstar life. “I played a couple of arenas in the last two nights. It’s amazing how intimate those rooms can feel when the lights go out,” he said. “I’ve had a very good run. I was lucky enough to get to perform to her crowd, who are super welcoming and warm.”

The Amity Affliction

While we all know how major The Amity Affliction are here in Australia, some readers may not be aware of just how beloved they are overseas, particularly in America, where the band have been taking an extended sojourn courtesy of the Vans Warped Tour.

Meanwhile, their latest album, the acclaimed Let The Ocean Take Me, has sold over 40,000 units in the States, and their last two national tours were sold out in all major cities, playing rooms of around 700-1,100 capacity.

Northlane

As they gear up to release their latest album, Node, their first with their new vocalist, the band already have some massive dates booked. They’re set to headline the 1,200 capacity Islington Academy in London in October as part of their 30-show European headline tour.

Meanwhile, they were nominated at the Golden Gods awards for the second year in a row and played an epic set at the recent Download Festival. However, despite all of this goal-kicking, we reckon their greatest achievement their performance in this incredible awkward skit interview that came out last month.

Northeast Party House

These acclaimed party-starters recently announced a farewell tour of Australia. Don’t worry, they’re coming back, but their August tour will be their last Australian dates before they embark on their first overseas shows, taking in the US, UK, and Europe.

They’ll be hitting up venues in LA, New York, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague, and the Czech Republic. What’s more, the crowds overseas can’t wait to see them. According to the band’s Facebook page, their London show sold out in just five days and a second show is coming.
