Tone Deaf recently covered the best-selling vinyl releases of 2015 and it now looks as though that list might have received its latest edition. Nirvana’s 2002 self-titled greatest hits compilation is set to be released on vinyl for the first time ever next month.

The album featured some of the band’s biggest singles, including landmark releases like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Come As You Are’, as well as the then-unheard ‘You Know You’re Right’, and it will now be available in both standard and deluxe versions from 28th August.

The compilation includes tracks from across the band’s discography, including album cuts and tracks from the band’s now iconic MTV Unplugged session (‘The Man Who Sold The World’) and the non-LP single ‘Sliver’, which later appeared on Incesticide.

Fans, who will assuredly flock to record stores to pick up the collector’s item, will be able to purchase Nirvana as a double-LP pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and packaged in a furnace black gatefold sleeve along with liner notes and a digital download card.

Music industry bible Billboard recently revealed that vinyl sales are up by a staggering 38.4 percent this year, while Nielsen Music recently unveiled their mid-year report, revealing the year’s most successful artists, albums, and singles.

Interestingly, pop star Taylor Swift’s blockbuster fifth album, 1989, is this year’s biggest selling vinyl album. Not exactly the kind of artist audiophile vinyl nerds tend to like, nor the format for your typical Swift devotee.

Swift’s fifth album, which has yielded several mega-hits, including the ubiquitous smash ‘Shake It Off’, has shifted 34,000 units so far this year, topping a list that also includes releases from more standard vinyl lover fair, such as Sufjan Stevens and Alabama Shakes.

Stevens comes in second, having sold 32,000 copies of his universally acclaimed new album Carrie & Lowell, followed by Arctic Monkeys, who are still riding high with the vinyl edition of their album AM which came in second to Jack White’s Lazaretto on the 2014 end-of-year list.
