CHVRCHES have announced the release of their hugely anticipated second album, Every Open Eye, set to drop 25th September via Liberator Music/Goodbye Records. To celebrate the new LP, the acclaimed Glaswegian trio have unveiled its first single, ‘Leave A Trace’.

Fans of the synth-pop three-piece have been waiting on a follow-up to 2013’s The Bones of What You Believe virtually since the moment they became enchanted by the precise vocals of Lauren Mayberry and the inescapably catchy layers of synths and percussion from Iain Cook and Martin Doherty.

The Bones of What You Believe was released to widespread critical acclaim and went on to sell over 500,000 copies worldwide. The Brit Award nominated band clocked in 364 shows in just two years, selling out venues across the world and making signature appearances at Glastonbury, Coachella, and myriad others.

Follow the success of their debut, Cook, Doherty, and Mayberry returned to their own Alucard Studios — a converted flat on the southside of Glasgow where their stunning debut was conceived — and began developing ideas they’d recorded in venues during their time on the road.

They crafted riffs, loops, and melodies, which formed the foundations of the songs that would eventually comprise Every Open Eye. Vocal melodies were developed as the songs took shape with the lyrics added last, developed from words and sentences from notebooks Mayberry had kept on tour.

News that the album is finally set to arrive is sure to stir a frenzy among the group’s legions of fans and the new single provides many hints at where the band has taken their sound on the new record, with its expanded sonic pallet and mixtures of light and dark.

Musically, Every Open Eye does more with less. The band was looking to makes something intense, urgent, and visceral, relying on the basic triumvirate of melody, rhythm, and arrangement. It’s an album of twisted pop that juxtaposes light and dark, the electronic and the organic.
