With just a few more sleeps to go, one of this country’s biggest music festivals Splendour in the Grass is about to kick off (on Friday the 24th to be exact). With tickets selling out mighty fast don’t feel bad about missing out, because Splendour have over the past few months announced a massive number of sideshows.

From the legendary talents of one of Britain’s biggest indie rock bands Blur, to the manic garage rock of The King Khan & BBQ show, to the hottest up and coming buzz acts like Wolf Alice and Marmozets – the sideshow announcements have something for lovers of every genre.

To help you get over your last minute SITG FOMO and jealousy, we’ve compiled a list of the most exciting Splendour sideshows that will be rolling into town – and that you can still get tickets to! Rug up, stay warm, laugh at those suckers in tents this weekend battling with stormy weather and enjoy the best sideshows Splendour has to offer.

The King Khan & BBQ Show

The pioneering rock’n’roll legend that is The King Khan & BBQ Show always go down an absolute treat here in Australia, having sold out multiple Aussie visits, it’s clear the love is mutual. The fabled duo (comprising singer / guitarist King Khan and drummer / singer / guitarist Mark Sultan) who made their Australian debut at the request of Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson for the 2010 Vivid Festival will play additional shows in Sydney and Melbourne in celebration of their recently released album Bad News Boys, their first in five years. If loose parties soundtracked by the very best in garage rock are your thing, then don’t miss these guys.

Palma Violets

Playing supports for fellow indie rock legends The Vaccines, London four piece The Palma Violets will be playing one very exclusive, special headline show at Ding Dong Lounge. Two years on from the release of their debut, top 10 UK charting album 180, the guys are back better than ever. Still only in their early twenties, Palma Violets have developed into first class songwriters and have been gathering fans from all over the world, including the likes of Tom Petty who caught them at one of their SXSW performances back in March. Don’t snooze on this one though, tickets are selling fast and you’ll kick yourself if you miss this.

Blur

It’s been 18 years since Blur, one of the most influential and successful British bands of the past two decades, have visited Australian shores, but the wait has been well worth it and now fans will get to see the Britpop icons live at three very special Splendour sideshows. Armed with a brand new album, The Magic Whip, Blur will be taking crowds through one of the most treasured discographies in British music. Joining the band will be acclaimed songwriter and garage vanguard Jamie T, who’ll be opening on all dates of Blur’s sideshow tour.

Wolf Alice

London’s Wolf Alice have been a band with serious buzz for some time now, having enjoyed a breakthrough 2014-15 following the release of their Creature Songs EP and My Love Is Cool LP. The band has since appeared on the much-coveted BBC Sound of 2015 long list and became the fourth most blogged-about artist of 2014 on UK Hype Machine. Now, the band will be taking Australia by storm during two highly anticipated Splendour sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney. Catch these guys to find out just what all the buzz is about.

Shlohmo + WEDIDIT

This month marks the first ever WEDIDIT Tour of Australia and New Zealand in July 2015, featuring Shlohmo (with full live band), D33J, Purple, Nick Melons and special guests. WEDIDIT is a collective of talented producers and djs (including Shlomo) who create some of the most exciting R&B, hip hop and electronic music going around right now. The tour is also in celebration of Shlohmo’s mesmerizing new album “Dark Red” (out now on True Panther). Following a sell-out solo tour last year, this is 25-year-old Henry Laufer as no one has seen before – the chopped and screwed conductor to a crazed live band. You’d be crazy to miss this.

Mark Ronson

The British production wiz is super amped to return to Australia this winter, almost sounding a little nervous at the magnitude of the highly anticipated performances ahead of him, “these are the biggest shows we’ve ever played, I’m about to go into the studio and rehearse for like a month just for these shows.”  It’s also been confirmed that his Business Intl. collaborators MNDR and Alex Greenwald who appeared on the album, Record Collection, are making the trip Down Under, with supports and guest appearances casually including Pond, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Tkay Maidza, Yolanda Be Cool and Jones Jnr. Looking to be pretty much the gig of the year, right? Right!

Marmozets

UK rockers Marmozets unveiled their debut album, The Weird And Wonderful, late last year and they’ve just been going from strength to strength ever since, garnering rave reviews, including a number of ‘album of the year’ nominations. The group will now follow-up a year that saw them help to close out Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing Stage, in addition to a raft of other prestigious festival dates, including Reading, Leeds, Download, and Radio 1 Rocks with a performance at Splendour In The Grass and two eagerly awaited sideshows which you can still score tickets to.

Death Cab For Cutie

Having just released their stellar latest studio album Kintsugi the Washington legends have revealed that they’re doing a full run of Australian headline shows including shows in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Canberra and a signature headline performance at the Sydney Opera House, having sold out a number of shows already, the guys just keep adding new shows so everyone gets a chance to see them. Good blokes, pop by and thank ’em.
