The ticket ballot for this year’s Meredith Music Festival was announced earlier this month, along with some of the details of the revelry punters can expect during Meredith’s 25th anniversary.

While Aunty Meredith has promised the ever-important lineup “will be out and about soon enough”, one Meredith fan has decided to launch a grassroots campaign to ensure the coveted sunset spot goes to the right person.

Piers Smart would like to see the slot famously filled by local legends like Neil Finn, Paul Kelly, and Augie March go to none other than John Farnham. “I think it’s pretty self-explanatory,” Piers writes on Change.org.

“Simply put, it would be without a doubt the most iconic performance of his stellar career. He’s actively performing at the moment, there’s no reason why we can’t make this happen. So please take the time to pass this on and be the change you want to see in the world.”

Naturally, we’re all on board here. Seeing the Australian music legend on stage at the glorious Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre belting out ‘You’re The Voice’ right as the sun begins to descend on the horizon would be amazing.

Piers tells Tone Deaf he came up with the idea to get Farnsy to Meredith after seeing Chic and Nile Rodgers play in 2013. “It got me thinking, who would be a really iconic act to play? It seems to be a bit of a trend these days,” he says.

“Whilst under the influence on Saturday night, I mentioned it to a few mates and everyone (all avid Meredith-goers) agreed it would be awesome. So on Sunday, whilst feeling pretty sorry for myself, I began the petition. God, I wish I wrote a better bio now though.”

Piers says he’s been going Meredith for years, attending the annual event with his whole family — “Even my dad!” — and thinks Farnahm would be perfect to fill the “prime time” spot.

“Who wouldn’t want to look around and see everyone singing along with him while the sun goes down?” he says.

However, Farnsy probably has another farewell tour or something in the works set for Meredith time (Meredith 2015 will take place 11th, 12th, and 13th December), so it’ll likely take some convincing for him to come.

If you want to throw your support behind the Get Farnsy to Meredith campaign, head on over to Change.org and sign the petition.

“The response has been pretty hilarious actually, I think so far it’s been mostly positive,” says Piers. “Some negative… but luckily Meredith has a no dickhead policy, so they won’t be coming.”

Piers says he hasn’t heard from Aunty Meredith or Farnham himself and admits he may have left the whole thing “a bit too late”. However, “I thought if we started enough of a movement it might even guarantee him a spot next year, who knows?”

If Farnham isn’t secured for this year’s event, Piers says he’d be happy to see the spot go to “Prince, Diana Ross… Spandau Ballet, Toto, David Hasselhoff, Will Smith… Tina Turner, Jamiroquai, Bryan Ferry, [or] Midnight Oil.”
