Young hip hop talents has been making waves across the country lately (do we even need to name drop? Ok Baro, Tkay Maidza, Allday) and Nico Ghost is one new name to add to that list. The talented Melbourne MC has just unleashed his brand new EP Kaishi to some serious hype.

Nico explains the meaning of the EP title “It’s called Kaishi because ‘Kaishi’ means beginning in Japanese and that’s what this tape is, it’s my beginning”.“I wanted to keep this introduction short and sweet. Majority of the EP is produced in house by GXNXVS and Seywood who I’ve been working with for a while now.”

The Melbourne based artist has already been making his mark with his diverse style and take on the local rap scene. Playing impressive gigs like Beyond the Valley Music festival and supporting booming artists Fortunes, he’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

To celebrate the release of this killer EP, Nico has given us a track by track run down of Kaishi, check it out below and if you like what you hear be sure to visit his Facebook page for all upcoming info.

Coolin’

“Everyone has a different idea as to what this song is about, and what it means to be ‘Coolin’. People place so much importance nowadays of what other people think of them, yet everyone has different values and respects different things. The idea of the is song is that you don’t have to care about what people think of you – as long as you’re staying true to that little voice inside, you Coolin’.

With that idea in mind GXNXVS lays down a beat that sounds like the ocean and I make the waves start flowing. We Coolin’.”

Bound 2 Snow

“I wrote this one just after I moved to Melbourne. It’s about a girl.

Everything is always happy and smooth when things are fine, but there’s always rough periods where things get a little shaky and it’s bound to get cold, bound to snow. It’s during times of anguish where true colors show… Will she want to come outside even if its cold?”

Cold Ass Bitches

“One night I watched, and watched, and watched my friend go to all sorts of lengths to please a friend of his he was interested in and even knowing, she kept completely shutting him down.

I felt for him, I really did… so I just said it plain and clear “why we still fuckin with these cold ass bitches?” – from that the song was born. And just like the lyrics, those girls got so crazy we had to kick them out of the hotel room and all.”

Daps and Pounds

“A dap and pound, for those who don’t know what that is: Here’s a minute long version.

This song is about not being afraid to go outside your comfort zone, step away from the norm, and being respected for it. Seywood ain’t afraid of no barriers with the production on this track.”

PWH [Pretty Wild Here]

“This is a song I think everyone can relate to. Things get a little crazy and sometimes you need to take some time and breathe.

Inspired by a weekend long disco in a rainforest where I spoke with a horse, downloaded information from a tree, and left my body for a while, when I eventually came back to myself I thought I better settle down for bit. Those adventures can be fun, but you can’t get caught up in it all and lose track of what’s most important to you.”
