While Sydney’s late night scene is still reeling from the news that the much-loved Imperial Hotel may be facing permanent closure, it’s been given a shot in the arm thanks to the launch of a brand new live music venue located safely outside the lockout zone.

The Sly Fox Hotel was once a popular late night destination for many Sydney punters. It’s now been revived under new management, given a fresh coat of paint, and will reopen as Slyfox this August. Most interestingly though, it’s taken some inspiration from a certain Melbourne venue.

Located on Sydney’s iconic Enmore Road, the revamped Slyfox will have a slick ’70s feel in its decor, with shagpile carpet, jungle wallpaper, and patterned lamp shades. This may sound familiar to Melbourne punters and there’s a very good reason for that.

“Revolver in Melbourne was an inspiration with its retro feel and lampshades,” creative director Kerry Wallace told The Music. “We went 10 steps further, though. Our lampshades are controlled via a DMX lighting system, so they change colours and flash through thousands of patterns.”

“It’s quickly become the identity of the venue. It looks sensational,” Wallace added. Slyfox will launch with a stacked five-night entertainment roster, running from Tuesday through until sunrise on Sunday. Wallace said promoters are hoping to make it a varied lineup from week to week.

Slyfox will be hosting Newtown’s favourite lesbian night, Birdcage, on Wednesdays, while Thursdays will be dedicated to live bands, Fridays will be inviting a revolving roster of Sydney party crews, and Saturday nights will feature Foxlife parties dedicated to “deep house and rolling baselines”.

Wallace told inthemix that Friday night parties will be going for “different vibes every week, but essentially all derived around house music… some disco crews, techno crews, house crews.” Some notable names on the bill include Entropico, 4our, Deep Seeded, and more.

Wallace also revealed that “daytime S.A.S.H & Abercrombie vibes” will return soon. Readers can head to the Slyfox Facebook page for more info or head to Slyfox to get an iconic slice of the Melbourne nightlife in Sydney’s hub of live music.
