One of the biggest events on the Melbourne musical and cultural calendar has officially announced its annual music lineup. Melbourne Festival 2015 will kick off this October, featuring performances from Courtney Barnett, Flight Facilities, Laura Marling, The Fall, and more.

Organisers have packed this year’s lineup with some super exclusive performances, including a heartfelt homage to one of the world’s most timeless rock albums featuring four of the country’s biggest names and a never before seen collaboration between our premiere electronic export and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Patti Smith’s groundbreaking debut album, Horses, Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, Adalita, and Gareth Liddiard of The Drones will unite for one special Australian exclusive performance at Melbourne Town Hall, playing Smith’s classic album in full.

Meanwhile, Flight Facilities, one of the runaway Australian music success stories of 2014, will perform as part of a game-changing collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to recreate the duo’s five-year journey to their critically acclaimed, best-selling debut album, Down to Earth.

Following on from a sold-out 2013 national tour, award-winning UK folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling will return to Australia. Marling will perform in the sublime surrounds of Hamer Hall, backed by a full band, to celebrate the release of her latest release, the widely lauded Short Movie.

Music fans will also be treated to an appearance from post-punk legends The Fall, who’ll be bringing their prolific and universally acclaimed discography in tow. Renowned as iconic BBC DJ John Peel’s favourite band, The Fall are also a formidable act on the live stage.
