Back in April, we ran a feature titled 12 Ways To be A Dickhead At A Gig, which detailed the various ways in which a regular punter can become the bane of everyone’s existence during a concert. High up on our list was talking.

Of course, no one has any problem with punters talking before and after the set – concerts are supposed to be a social experience. But for the love of God, don’t talk during the set. Show some respect for the performers and your fellow punters.

Talking during a song, especially if it’s a quiet or acoustic song, is the height of rudeness. Quite frankly, we’d rather you whip out your phone and just text whatever it is you have to say that’s so important.

We have a feeling Aussie music veteran Tex Perkins might feel the same way. As The Music reports, during a recent performance with The Dark Horses in Tasmania, Perkins called out an inconsiderate audience member for chatting during the gig.

Perkins was performing in Hobart to celebrate the release of his most recent full-length, Tunnel At The End Of The Light. The band were just three songs deep into the set at the Republic Bar when Perkins stopped midway through a lyric to address a female audience member.

“Excuse me, can you shut the fuck up?” Perkins reportedly told the lady, who was standing near the front of the stage. “Or move to the back of the room? All I can hear is, ‘nyahayhahnahayh’. Just tone it the fuck down, please, or at least turn around to face the stage.”

A deflated Perkins then told the crowd, “Can I ask that the first two rows listen to the band? Everyone else do whatever the fuck you want.” Perkins then returned to the set and the band completed the gig without further incident.

We all have our pet peeves, but there are things we all universally agree are just not on when you’re out to see live music. That is, of course, unless you’re one of the people who indulges in one of these bad habits, and even then you probably find them annoying too.

We’re betting a callout and tongue-lashing from Tex Perkins was enough to get the punter in question to change her ways. For readers looking to break your own bad gig habits, check out our list of 12 Ways To be A Dickhead At A Gig.
