Minneapolis pop punk favourites Motion City Soundtrack are currently gearing up to make their way Down Under for a very special 10-year anniversary tour celebrating the release of their treasured 2005 sophomore release, Commit This To Memory.

Just in time for their Australian tour, the band have now officially announced the release of their highly anticipated sixth studio album, titled Panic Stations, slated for release on 18th September via Epitaph.

While on tour in the summer of 2013, vocalist Justin Pierre, guitarist Josh Cain, keyboardist Jesse Johnson, bassist Matt Taylor, and drummer Claudio Rivera began working on new material, initially for fun until eventually they found themselves with a collection of new songs.

There was no preconceived vision or theme for the boys, just the underlying goal to create music the band enjoyed playing together in one room. To help capture that energy, Panic Stations was recorded entirely live in June of 2014.

The album was produced by John Agnello at Seedy Underbelly North (formerly known as Pachyderm Studios) in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The band had been fans of Agnello’s prior work in producing and mixing albums by Dinosaur Jr, Jawbox, Sonic Youth, and recently Kurt Vile and The Hold Steady.

While there was no preconceived concept for the album during writing, Panic Stations was named after nautical structures that act as warning posts in the oceans and many of the songs reference water and the ocean.

Pierre also drew on an array of literary influences, with song lyrics inspired by Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and A Million Little Pieces. The result is a buoyant, impassioned record and one that fans will come to treasure for years.
