As well as kicking it around the country, the four piece also in recent months released a killer new single, video (titled Pow Pow Theme) and album titled DANKBEATS (available now via Bandcamp).

We recently caught up wight he infectiously fun crew to find out a little bit more about the Pow Pow Kids, and see what’s in store for the next 12 months. Check out the chat below and if you like what the Pow Pows are doing check out their Facebook page for more info on upcoming shows.

The Birth Of The Pow Pow Kids

“Hannah had just got off the spaceship known as X324 at the bus stop on Albion st in Brunswick. After purchasing a fat nuggie, she walked down to the Brunswick Valedrome to “roll up” and spotted a young busker named Tristan playing clarinet, very well.

It was after hearing his rendition of Will Smith and the other dudes version of ‘Bad Boy For Life’ that she decided to ask him if he played guitar. Not only did he play but he could shred until he was dead he said. ‘Well if you can shred until you’re almost dead that’s good enough for me’ she said. And they walked along Merri Creek, quite Merry indeed. Upon hearing the ‘Merryness’ of the duo, a young boy named Brent who was fighting a seagull for a rubbish bag that may or may not have contained a single chip turned to see what all the happy commotion was about.

It was obvious straight away to Tristan and Hannah that based on the elongation of scrap-boys fingers that were so tightly wrapped around his poking stick, it would be very likely that he could play Synthesizer, if someone else purchased it for him.

Luckily a rollerblader on his way to work was just throwing money in the air out of what seemed like a never-ending bumbag full of what some people call “KESH”. ‘We’ll let you join our band if you give us some money’ the trio said. And that’s how we found Jimmy G who is a rich snob first and a drummer second.”

Songwriting Process

“After Jimmy G joined the band it took but a few days for us to start writing bangaz. We had to scrub Brent down pretty bad because needless to say, the seagull won in the end. But once he was clean and Jimmy learned how to wear shoes it was all systems go from there on in.

Well word got around town that a coupla cool kids were jammin out some pretty happenin tunes and soon enough we booked a show at a venue which we can’t say because we’re now banned because of Hannah’s mouth. So I would say, given you’re question we formed in more of an organic fashion, although brent is robotic from the waist down.”

Key Influences

“Potato Cakes with or without sauce, Slumdog Millionare (the real one not the movie) or anything with a come-up story really, $1 cans from the servo, the guy at the servo, our cat Uley, the cafe we work at or not depending which one of us you are, the walk to work or the sleeping depending which one of us you are, The Ramones pizza delivery guys and Joey Ramones jeans, bangs.”

New Video

“It involved a guy called Sam Millar who’s the head wizard at Wet Weather films and it involved lots of black magic and dark rituals. He also shares DNA with Hannah.”

The New Album

“We just chucked an album up on our bandcamp so you can give that a geeze I guess, it’s only five buckas or you can stream it if you’re a scumbag and just so you know Abbott has your metadata.”

Plans For The Next 12 Months

“World domination with the Trans-PowPow Partnership whilst you’re all distracted by our bangaz.”
