After much eager anticipation, the organisers of Dashville Skyline 2015, a brand new Americana-themed music festival set to take over the Hunter Valley this October long weekend, announced a killer inaugural lineup which includes a headline spot by talented Canadian songwriter Bahamas.

Last seen in Australia in 2012 supporting City and Colour, Afie Jurvanen, Canadian musician and collaborator with Feist, Weather Station and many more incredible artists Bahamas return with his full band for both a Dashville appearance and Australian tour this September/October.

To celebrate the exciting upcoming tour we caught up with the JUNO award winning musician who ran us through some of the records that helped changed his life. Check them out below and catch Bahamas when he rolls into your town.

D’Angelo – Voodoo

2000, Cheeba Sound, Virgin
When he discovered this record: “No Idea! I feel like everyone around me was listening to it, so I must of just picked it up through osmosis. It was a pretty huge album.”

How it’s inspired him: “Great Bass. Great Drums. Great Guitar. Great vocals. Did I mention great bass? Holy smokes it’s amazing. Favourite track ‘Send It On’.”

50 Cent – Get Rich Or Die Trying

2003, Shady/ Aftermath/ Interscope
When he discovered this record: “Pretty hard to avoid ‘In Da Club’ when it came out. It was everywhere.”

How it’s inspired him: “Fiddy’s rapping is pretty amazing here, but really it’s Dre that shines. The beats, the production and the songs all come together perfectly. This is before he sold his headphone company for $300 million, so he’s still hungry. ”

Favourite track: “Has to be ‘In Da Club’. For sure.”

Skaggs & Rice – Skaggs & Rice

1980, Sugar Hill Records
When he discovered this record: “From my bud Doug Paisley. Him and I like to play guitar together, just like Skaggs & Rice.”

How it’s inspired him: “The album is unrivaled in it’s simplicity and I really like that. A lot of the things I like have this quality.”

Favourite track: “‘Mansion for Me'”

Alan Jackson – Angels and Alcohol

2015, EMI Nashville
When he discovered this record: “Apple music told me to listen to it. Probably cause I’m always listening to his other albums and Apple is always watching me. Kinda like a musical big brother.”

How it’s inspired him: “Really love how consistent he is. Just solid country, delivered fresh off the factory floor. The music comes correct!”

Favourite track: “‘The One You’re Waiting’ On’. I like how he says ‘cabernet.’

Bob Dylan- Shot of Love

1981, Columbia
When he discovered this record: “It’s one of the cheapest CDs money can buy! I think I bought it at a gas station or something and it stayed in my stereo for a year. Religious rock for the masses.”

How it’s inspired him: “This album introduced me to Dylan’s whole 80’s period and it’s become the part of his catalogue I love the most.”

Favourite track: “‘In the Summertime’. Sometimes I play it live.”

Van Morrison – Veedon Fleece

1974, Warner Bros.
When he discovered this record: “My wife showed it to me and it became the soundtrack to a whole fall/winter for us. We played it pretty much every evening while we would make dinner. It’s a real mood type record.”

How it’s inspired him: “Van has a way of making even bad, boring songs sound awesome. I guess you can do that when you have one of the greatest voices of all time. Absolute classic.”

Favourite track: “‘Bulbs’.”

The Weather Station – All of it Was Mine

2011, Indie
When he discovered this record: “We played a show together and I was totally floored. Walked right across the room and stuck my hand out and told her how amazing she was. Bought the LP, brought it home and just jammed it hard for a year.”

How it’s inspired him: “We’ve since made a lot of music together. She’s so talented it’s insane. She’s one of these people that can do whatever she wants and it’ll be cool. Like Van!”

Favourite track: “‘Came so Easy.'”
