If you’re reading this then there’s a good chance you may just be a musician, we know a lot of you are and we love it. If you are a musician, well then prepare to see your life appear on the screen in front of you, at least to some degree.

The trailer for Play It Safe, a new Australian film which documents the life and tumults of a struggling musician, presents a poignant panorama that is unfortunately all too familiar for musicians and indeed artists everywhere.

“You’re gonna be 30 before you know it. And then you’ll be 35, and then everyone you know is going to have solidity to their life, and you’re gonna be scratching your arse, looking around, wondering what happened,” the father of 26-year-old protagonist Jamie says in the trailer.

As The Music notes, the new film from independent director Chris Pahlow sees Jamie, played by Nicholas Kato, come up against a choice facing many creatives in this day and age: cut your losses and quit now or double down and take on seemingly insurmountable odds.

Play It Safe will have its world premiere at Lido Cinemas in Melbourne on Thursday, 10th September, with additional screenings at Elsternwick’s Classic Cinemas on Thursday, 17th September and Belgrave’s Cameo Cinemas on Friday, 18th September.

Being an Aussie film about an up-and-coming musician it’s only right that the soundtrack feature some talented local musos and boy does it ever, with contributions from Big Scary
,
Lower Spectrum, Polo Club, Villains
, and more.
