Readers who checked out King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s latest round of tour dates with enigmatic Swedish collective Goat and who keep abreast of the various goings-on in the Melbourne live music scene will have noticed something interesting yesterday.

Hidden in the list of the two bands’ co-headline tour dates was the Croxton, a venue we haven’t heard much from since they underwent an extensive re-brand and renovations to the venue space, which is located in Thornbury.

Well, the re-brand and renos are finally complete and the owners of the venue have announced a pretty spectacular round of first shows set for the space. In addition to King Gizz and Goat, Aussie rock legends You Am I will be paying he Croxton a visit.

As some readers may be aware, the Croxton is a venue with a great deal of history. Cold Chisel played their first ever Melbourne show there and those historic walls also witnessed a performance from a Bon Scott-era AC/DC.

That’s not to mention appearances from the Skyhooks, Rose Tattoo, Mississippi, Little River Band, Mi Sex, Mondo Rock, INXS, and countless other legendary Australian and international acts, who’ve all stopped by the Croxton Park Hotel.

The new Croxton features a huge band room with an unobstructed view of a “massive” stage and two bars and a newly renovated beer garden for pre/post-show catch ups. As for the location, it’s just three minutes from the Northcote Social Club and 20 minutes from Flinders St Station.

Owners boast that the new Croxton has a newly renovated band room and completely overhauled artist spaces, bars, and sound/lighting systems. They’re also preparing to unfurl an upcoming gig list “to rival any other bandroom in Melbourne”.
