UK garage pop rockers Best Friends are today unleashing their killer new LP Hot. Reckless. Totally Insane. Ahead of the release of their new album the band have graced the stage at The Great Escape Festival, BBC Radio 1’s BIG WEEKENDER, YNot? Festival, Tramline Festival, Beacon Festival, Dot To Dot Festival, Truck Festival, Liverpool Sound City, and UK tours supporting Swim Deep and Skaters.

As the story goes – emerging from a damp, airless Sheffield basement in 2011, rife with decay and broken equipment,  Best Friends set about inflicting their warped idea of garage pop onto the public. Hell-bent on taking music back to a time when three minute pop songs transported you from your miserable existence to a blissful state of nirvana – when guitar tones fried your brain, and hygiene was a dirty word.

Now armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of WWF, a full set of achievements on Mario Kart, and several crates of beer, the band are gearing up to unleash this new gem of a record, and to celebrate they’ve given us a little run down on each tack. Check it out below and if you like what you hear be sure to visit the band’s Facebook page for more info.

Fake Spit

“We went to the studio with this song being really long, and then decided to restructure it completely so it was real short, then made it even longer with the intro. Tom had a really sweet solo that we cut out though, maybe we’ll start doing a live deluxe version!”

Holy Mountain

“We wrote the album with our old drummer Jack Collister, who left shortly after to go see the world. Last I heard he was in New Zealand working as a ski instructor or something. He wrote this one, I think it was inspired by the film of the same name.”

Cold Shapes

“Don’t read too deep into this one, its kinda depressing. Its about waiting for that experience to come, then waiting for the next one, how life can get pretty repetitive in that way.”

If You Think Too Much Your Brain Will Fall Out

“Boy meets girl, they fall in love, they fall out of love, boy is in a band so naturally writes a song about it based on ripping off her favourite Beatles song. Boy hopes it never hurt her feelings.”

Nosebleeds

“You can do whatever you want, fuck anyone who puts you down, do what makes you happy.”

Dr Mario

“Sometimes when you’re not feeling good the best temporary solution is to sail away into the sky on a diamond rug. Make sure you be safe and don’t trust those on the street.”

Baba Vanga

“‘Baba Vanga’ was a Bulgarian mystic who predicted 911, upset Hitler and said Europe’s gonna be nuked by 2016. You heard it here first!”

Happy Anniversary

“Apparently this song is in 7/8 or something which makes it hard to dance to. It took me a while to crack, and with practice you’ll get there too so make sure you do a dry run before coming to a show. Come to terms with your quarter life crisis with us because everything’s gonna be fine.”

Shred Til You’re Dead

“Personally it took me a while to come to terms with this one, I’m glad I did though cause its a big one. Also there’s a good opening for a drum solo in the bridge, and drum solos are sweet.”

Orange Juice

“Getting deep on this one. It was the last song we wrote for the album. There’s a sad note (I believe technically called a minor chord) just after the feedback when it all kicks in that makes me wanna cry. We did it, it took fucking ages but we made an album. Edwin please don’t sue us, we love you.”
