The organisers behind St Kilda Festival are now on the lookout for exciting new talent to help support. Their New Music Stage initiative is back for 2016, and they’re offering the nation’s best emerging talent a chance to play at Australia’s biggest free music festival. Ten bands will be chosen to play on the New Music Stage, with the crowd favourite to win $5,000 and a spot on the Main Stage in 2017. To be eligible for inclusion on the New Music Stage, acts must be unsigned and not currently receiving financial assistance from a label.

For Victorian based artists, the St Kilda festival are also on the call out for Victorian acts to play the Live N Local event. Live N Local is a jam-packed week of entertainment with a variety of musicians playing at St Kilda venues and locations. The hugely popular program offers local musicians from all genres a chance to join in a week of festivities celebrating live music. In order to be eligible to apply, at least one of the members must live, work or study in the City of Port Phillip.

Both applications are open now and closing on Monday 28 September 2015, if you’d like to apply – visit www.stkildafestival.com.au. To celebrate the great opportunities St Kilda Fest are giving unsigned local acts, we’ve decided to have a look back at previous winners and their impressive achievements.
