Wavves have been absent from Australian shores since their appearance at Splendour In The Grass 2013 and a run of co-headline sideshows with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, but according to main man Nathan Williams, fans can expect their return this summer.

Speaking to triple j‘s Veronica and Lewis as he gears up for a US tour to promote the band’s latest album, V, Williams let slip that the band would be bringing their latest release Down Under towards the end of the year.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but we are coming to Australia. I know that,” the songwriter and frontman told the hosts. Whilst he didn’t mention the purpose of the band’s visit, Williams did say that we can expect Wavves just in time for summer festival season.

“Well, I’m supposed to leave the States the day after Christmas,” he teased. The timing puts the band in contention for the lineups for Falls and/or Southbound, Beyond The Valley, Lost Paradise, and Field Day.

However, it remains to be seen whether the band will indeed come as a late addition to one of Australia’s many NYE and NYD festival options, which seem to be growing by the week, or their own headline shows.

Williams also addressed his feud with his label, Warner Bros, whom he assailed in a furious Twitter tirade several months back, after the label took down his own single from the web. In response, Williams threatened to leak Wavves’ latest album.

“I think it’s sorted out. I don’t really talk with them,” Nathan said of the situation between himself and the label. “I don’t talk with them at all, actually. My manager and PR agent … I just don’t think I have a lot of fans over there [at the label].”

He apparently doesn’t have many fans in his local neighbourhood either, having recorded the entirety of V inside his home studio. “My neighbours hate me, I just do it in my living room,” Williams revealed. “We did the whole album there.”

Stay tuned to Tone Deaf and we’ll have all the details of Wavves’ Australian summer tour as soon as they drop.
