We’ve been telling readers that Australian musicians are absolutely killing it overseas for some time now. Everywhere you look there’s another success story and best of all, it’s completely irrespective of genre.
Whether you’re looking at psychedelic rock bands like Tame Impala, hot shot emcees like Tkay Maidza, soulful vocal talents like Meg Mac, or the heavy, metalcore stylings of bands like The Amity Affliction, they can’t get enough of us abroad.
Case in point, the massive lineup for New York City’s famous CMJ Music Marathon was just unveiled and it’s absolutely packed with homegrown Australian artists, including the likes of Allday, Harts, Kingswood, and more.
For those not in the know, the CMJ Music Marathon is a convention and music festival, which takes place each autumn in New York, bringing together acts from around the world, performing in a wide range of genres.
Previous years have seen appearances from the likes of Ball Park Music, Gossling, Courtney Barnett, The Delta Riggs, Dune Rats, The Preatures, and many more Australian-bred bands and artists who’ve gone on to bigger and better things at home and overseas.
This year, the conference is celebrating its 35th anniversary and helping them along will be some of Australia’s favourite up-and-coming and established acts, including Client Liaison, Fraser A Gorman, Methyl Ethel, Northeast Party House, and more.
Really, it’s just further proof that Australian music has never been more exportable. With the continued success of our bands and artists overseas, we’re sure to see it occurring more and more. Rest assured, Tame Impala aren’t just a fluke.
