Beloved Canadian post-hardcore outfit and your favourite band in high-school Alexisonfire have announced they have officially reunited. Guitarist Wade MacNeil confirmed the news during a recent gig in Toronto.

As Alternative Press reports, the band was in the middle of a performance at Toronto’s Riot Fest over the weekend when MacNeil told the crowd, “Thank you for believing in this band when we couldn’t even believe in this band.”

“Thank you for sticking with us. We promise to never leave you again. No more sentimental shit. Alexisonfire is officially back.” The guitarist’s announcement, which follows a series of reunion gigs for the band, can be watched below.

The band announced their dissolution back in 2011, citing issues such as guitarist and vocalist Dallas Green’s departure to focus on his City and Colour project, MacNeil’s departure to join another band, and personal issues.

The announcement of their breakup was later followed by a run of “official” farewell shows, which took place in 2012, which the band then followed up with two exclusive vinyl box set releases, the first of which sold out in minutes.

After what essentially constituted a three-year hiatus, the band announced earlier this year that they would be reuniting for a handful of festival performances, though it wasn’t clear if the band had a future ahead of these shows.

Considering the fact that the band are “officially” reuniting after a farewell tour that took place just three years ago, it sounds to us like the Ontario crew may have taken a page out of the book of our very own John Farnham.
