Philadelphia Grand Jury’s eagerly anticipated comeback album, Summer of Doom, is set to drop next Friday, 2nd October, but you can be one of the first people in the country to hear it and all you have to do is hop on a bus.

Dan W Sweat and MC Bad Genius will be sitting on Sydney 555 bus from 12pm to 2pm this Thursday, 1st October with headphones for fans to listen to Summer of Doom. You’ll also get a free copy of the album on CD and the first 10 people will get a free double pass to the band’s upcoming Sydney show.

The band will be keeping fans updating with their location via Twitter, so make sure you’re keeping your eyes glued to social media on the day if you want to be one of the first to score a copy of the Philly Jays’ raw new album.

The story of Philadelphia Grand Jury begins in a house in Sydney back in 2009. Simon ‘Berkfinger’ Berckelman was listening to too much Snakefinger and Talking Heads and decided to sell his car to buy enough gear to record his friends MC Bad Genius and Dan ‘W.’ Sweat.

The trio soon signed to Boomtown Records and their debut, Hope Is For Hopers, was an unexpected success for the band, leading to hundreds of shows and festivals across the country, as well as treks to the US, UK, Europe, and South Africa.

With the departure of Dan, drummers came and went and the band gained more notoriety at home and abroad, scoring massive airplay on Aussie and UK radio and syncs in movies and TV shows. Right as they were about to release album number two, it all went belly up.

Bad Genius and Berkfinger had a major bustup and it was all over as quickly as it began. But after some surprise reunion shows in 2013 and a quick tour in 2014, the band decided to get back to work and flew to Berlin with producer Tim Whitten.

Over the course of 10 days of writing and recording, the band’s new album, Summer of Doom, was born. Most of the tracks were recorded live within 30 minutes of being written and the album is devoid of any editing or computer trickery.
