There’s nothing wrong with remaining faithful to the original tune when performing for Like A Version. Skilled artists are able to imbue their cover versions with plenty of their own personality even while sticking to the source material.

But there’s a certain magic that happens when a band take a song and totally transform it and make it their own. That’s just what Adelaide rockers Bad//Dreems did with their cover of The Weeknd’s mega-hit ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, with some help from The Preatures’ Isabella Manfredi.

“We are very proud to present you all with our triple j’s Like A Version cover of ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ by The Weeknd,” the band wrote on Facebook. “A huge thanks to the ridiculously talented Izzy Manfredi of The Preatures, and thanks again to Linda Marigliano. Hope you all like it.”

We’ve previously acknowledged the sheer level of talent and originality on display during this year’s Like A Version series, especially from the glut of awesome local bands and artists like Dorsal Fins, with their cover of Kate Ceberano’s ‘Pash’ and E^st’s recent cover of The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’.

We’ve also seen some rousing calls-to-arms, an alt-rock mash-up that blew us away, some ambitious takes on mega-tunes by the likes of FKA twigs, Jamie xx, and Fatboy Slim, as well as a raw take on a homegrown anthem.
