If you were following the news this week, you may have seen a video of two Byron Bay kayakers who had the bejeezus scared out of them by a couple of breaching whales. It was covered by the likes of Nine News, The Daily Mail, and Sky.

Well, it turns out that wasn’t just any kayaker in that… uh, kayak, that just so happened to be a member from a prominent Aussie band. According to The Northern Star, that was Ben Gordon, drummer for Parkway Drive.

As The Northern Star reports, Gordon was out kayaking with his mate Dylan Garft when two whales popped by to say hello just metres from their kayak. Graft just so happened to be running a GoPro at the time.

According to Nine News, the incident happened only hours before Gordon took to the stage for the first of two Parkway Drive shows in Byron Bay on the weekend. Apparently, they had only just switched the GoPro on.

“Initially we were pretty frightened as these two whales basically snuck up on us,” Garft told Nine News. “We had just seen a stingray swim through the bait ball and wanted to try to film another or just the dolphins that were feeding. It was a complete surprise and we only just turned on the GoPro!”
