While there were allegedly “strong” rumours that AC/DC were recruiting one of three legendary Aussie bands to support them on their forthcoming national tour — Silverchair, Powderfinger, or Jet — the hearsay has now proven to be untrue.

For one thing, members from both Silverchair and Powderfinger have denied that either band plans to reform, for an AC/DC tour or otherwise. Jet seemed keen, but couldn’t event get a call back from the headliners.

But more importantly, the band have just gone ahead and officially announced who’ll be supporting them during their Rock Or Bust this November. They’ll be joined by Swedish garage favourites The Hives and Australia’s own Kingswood.

“When we were 6 years old in Fagersta, Sweden we were struck for the first time by the lightning that is Rock n Roll,” The Hives said. “That lightning was AC/DC. Now many years later we find ourselves in a successful rock n roll band and going on tour with them. It couldn’t be better if we made it up. Life rules.”

Rumours the Swedes had been tapped to support were first reported by Sticky Carpet, who claimed “Sweden’s answer to the Ramones and the Easybeats” were “hotly rumoured” to be the act who’ll be rocking stadiums alongside Acca Dacca.
