Melbourne based duo Dividem recently dropped their debut EP and it’s the ideal introduction to the guys who have been making some serious waves with their house inspired dance gems.

Comprising of high school buddies Paddy Hassall and James McCasey, the two piece have been making music together for around a decade now in some form or another.  The undeniable synchronistic energy these guys have pours out of this three track release.

To celebrate the EP and their upcoming show at Beyond The Valley festival Paddy and James have given us a track by track run down of the release. Check it out below and if you like what you’re hearing pop by the Dividem Facebook page for more info.

All In My Head

“This started out as a completely different track. We sent this over to a vocalist we had found online to get some vocals over and when she sent us back a rough edit of the vocals we sat down that night and wrote a completely new track underneath.

This track has seen so many edits I’m surprised it ever saw the light of day – it took us ages before we were happy with it. The vocals for this were recorded in Sydney and they’re so nice. The secret singer on this track is doing huge things at the moment, we’re stoke with how this one has come out!”

Fix

“This track has James on vocals. We recorded all of this at home, actually James did the vocals for this completely in his dining room. You can probably get the content of the song from the lyrics. Fave part of this is the outro because of the chord progression.”

Solitude

“For Solitude we started with a vocal phrase that James sung. It was pretty rough so we downtuned it and played around with it a fair bit. We wanted a track on the EP that was a bit deeper, darker and more club oriented, but we like that it’s still really melodic. This song works well at the end of our sets and it’s so much fun to play. You need a solid pair of speakers to get the full impact!”
