As Tone Deaf reported this morning, the site of Sydney’s iconic Oxford Art Factory is up for grabs, coming just a month after the owners of the city’s Goodgod Small Club announced they were looking to sell their beloved venue.

But if you’re a publican-in-the-making and don’t boast a NSW license plate on your car, there’s still hope for owning your very own established live music venue. North Melbourne’s Public Bar is for sale and the price is actually pretty reasonable.

As Bar Sales Melbourne reports, the Public Bar is situated on Victoria Street, directly opposite from the Queen Victoria Market and has been proudly serving the Melbourne live music scene for the last 25 years.

“Walking in the through the main double doors you are faced by the bar that not only looks after the dining and seating area but from the back of it also looks after the band room,” the listing description reads.

The bar boasts and eight-line beer system with all the kegs stored in the cellar. There’s a standalone cool room set to one side of the bar and there’s an open-plan kitchen to one side of the front room open till 11 every night.

Other features include a large, covered, outdoor seated area that has no number restrictions, which serves as a go-to destination for those leaving the market. The rear of the venue has a stage, small band room, and raised sound booth.

Most intriguingly, the Public Bar has a very rare 24-hour liquor license, so bands can play throughout the night. The venue has a capacity of 180 and no security restrictions, making it very cheap to run.

There’s also off-premises consumption, so the venue can be converted into a bottle shop if the new owner should so desire. With 15 years left on the lease and rent at $2,000 a week plus GST, the new owner will have themselves a thriving business.

The current owners are also the vendors of the Old Bar and simply don’t have enough time to run both venues and want someone to take on this unique Melbourne music space, as well as its staff who are happy to stay on, while owners are happy to grant an assistance period.

Best of all, owners are looking for offers in the region of $195,000, so between you, a few of your very best mates, a bank loan, and maybe a crowdfunding campaign or two, buying the Public Bar isn’t at all outside the realm of possibility.
