If you were left stranded by the recent cancellation of Soulfest 2015, there’s good news for you. Some fans of the festival and a couple of the acts that were set to appear have banded together to create a series of replacement shows dubbed Soul Power.
The two small, intimate shows will each feature diverse lineups of acts in the genres of soul, jazz, funk, and hip-hop, including MK-1, L-FRESH THE LION, Thandi Phoenix, Peil, J Red, Mz Rizk, Josie Styles, Thomas Crown, and many more.
Soul Power Sydney will take place Saturday, 24th October at Marrickville’s Vic On The Park Hotel, while Melbourne will get its own Soul Power party on Sunday, 25th October at Belleville. And did we mention both shows are free? Check below for the full lineups.
MC Mirrah, an honorary member of L-FRESH’s band, is a co-creator of the event and said in a statement, via Music Feeds, that the shows are meant to expel some of the negative press and general bad vibes that have abounded since Soulfest’s cancellation.
“This event is to humbly remind you of some of your inner city backyard DJ’s, vocal artists and promoters who put on smaller events which are successful and full of Soul all the time and have for many years,” said Mirrah.
“May we all learn from the cancelled event and be respectful to those hardworking local smaller companies who put in hard work behind the scenes who may have lost a lot financially, not all are to blame.”
“So may we ‘all’ try to change the frowns from an event loss, to dance the blues away at FREE EVENT SOUL POWER,” she concluded. “Stop the negativity and let loose with celebrating your own soul with others.”
