If you had a particularly unproductive few days last week, it might have had something to do with all of the Drake ‘Hotling Bling’ parodies that were basically inescapable if you happened to spend any time on the internet.

Drake’s unique dance moves in the video for his latest single proved a viral sensation, spawning countless memes and parodies, as well as a pretty inspired Like A Version cover courtesy of local rockers Art Of Sleeping.

To hear some tell it, the online storm surrounding Drake’s latest joint is no accident. The video, the dancing, the memes – it’s all part of a carefully orchestrated plot to ensure the single becomes a hit.

Whether or not Drake intended to make an easily parodied clip to help promote the single is something we’ll leave for Illuminati experts to decide, but it does make sense considering the very particular timing of the single.

See, Drake kind of has a thing for October. He was born on 24th October and his record label is called October’s Very Own. What’s more, it’s been his lifelong dream to get his first Number 1 single during October.

“I spend my life trying to make waves for the city I am from,” he wrote on Instagram. “No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one.”

“If I get my first Number 1 during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool.”

“I love you and thank you for these memories. I always love the moment right before it happens more than when it actually happens. So thank you…even if it doesn’t.” As it stands, the single still hasn’t made it to Number 1.

And it’s likely it never will. See, despite planning everything seemingly to perfection, it appears Drake may have shot himself in the foot with how he decided to release the now notorious ‘Hotline Bling’ music video.

As Complex reports, during a live airing of the top-10 countdown, Billboard announced that ‘Hotline Bling’ will remain in the Number 2 spot this week, while the Weeknd’s ‘The Hills’ remains atop the charts.

During the live stream, it was revealed that the views for the ‘Hotline Bling’ video did not count towards Drake’s streaming numbers this week because it was released via Apple Music instead of YouTube or Vevo.

Though the video was insanely popular and likely accrued views in the millions, the rapper’s deal with Apple may have prevented him from experiencing his dream of earning his first solo Number 1 single in October.

To make matters worse, Adele recently announced her return to the music scene and her comeback single, ‘Hello’, which just broke a 24-hour Vevo record, is expected to run away with the Number 1 Billboard chart spot.

The closest Drake has previously come to a Hot 100 Number 1 as a solo artist was 2009’s ‘Best I Ever Had’, which likewise earned the silver. He did however appear on Rihanna’s hit ‘What’s My Name?’ which nabbed the top spot.
