Foo Fighters fans around the world are collectively losing it. The band recently posted a countdown timer on their official website, which seems to be ticking down the seconds until Monday, 23rd November.

What happens then? Checkmate. No, actually, we don’t know. That’s all the information we have. Considering how the band unveiled their previous album, Sonic Highways, it could really be anything.

Naturally, there’s plenty of speculation – a new album, a world tour, another instalment of Sonic Highways. It’s anybody’s guess really, but the strongest rumours seem to revolve around a US tour.

The timer does sit just below a Foo Fighters logo emblazoned on a US Route shield, but then again, the band just wrapped up a 43-date tour of their homeland and have another 11 shows booked in Europe next month.

At the time of writing, the mysterious countdown indicates the big revelatory moment will occur in 24 days, 22 hours, 15 minutes and 52 seconds from now, which would mean Dave Grohl and co will let us know what the hell is going on at 3pm AEDT Monday, 23rd November.

While the band did suggest their next album would be recorded in a similar fashion to Sonic Highways, there’s been little other news to suggest that work has begun on the band’s ninth album.

However, as FasterLouder notes, during a recent performance at Austin City Limits, Grohl told the crowd that the band had recorded five new songs during their stay in the city, including a collaboration with Ben Kweller.
