If you ask us, we reckon it’s been an incredible year for Australian music, and with the new year fast approaching it’s a good time to look back and recognise the bands and artists that have gone out and achieved the most.

November is, of course, Ausmusic Month, the annual celebration of Australian music on triple j, which culminates with the announcement of the year’s J Award winners. This year’s nominees have just been announced.

The J Awards recognise the bands and artists who’ve made outstanding contributions to Australian music over the past 12 months and this year’s nominees are certainly a reflection of this year’s most impactful artists.

Among the nominees for the highly coveted Australian Album of the Year award are Alison Wonderland, Courtney Barnett, Tame Impala, Parkway Drive, Hermitude, Seth Sentry, Gang of Youths, Jarryd James, The Rubens, and Alpine.

There’s also the annual triple j Unearthed Artist Of The Year, Double J Artist Of The Year, and Australian Music Video Of The Year awards. This year’s J Award winners will be announced live on triple j from 4.30pm Thursday, 19th November.

The entire triple j network will be celebrating Ausmusic Month, with Aussie specials across triple j’s programming. Meanwhile, Double J and triple j will be simulcasting all-Australian J Files on Tame Impala, Missy Higgins, Regurgitator, and more.
