There’s been some absolutely smashing triple j Like A Version covers this year and many of them have come courtesy of local talent. No wonder Thundamentals mainstay Tuka felt he had to pull out all the stops for his cover of Angus & Julia Stone’s ‘Big Jet Plane’.

We don’t even know where to start with this one. Maybe we can talk about the cameo from Thelma Plum? Or how about the fact that Tuka and co totally reworked the track, complete with new verses? Or what about the inclusion of an instrument that “doesn’t even exist yet”?

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we just can’t get over the level of talent that’s been on display during this year’s Like A Version series, especially from homegrown bands and artists like Dorsal Fins, with their cover of Kate Ceberano’s ‘Pash’ and Art Vs Science’s recent rework of the Metallica classic ‘Enter Sandman’.

We’ve also seen some rousing calls-to-arms, an alt-rock mash-up that blew us away, some ambitious takes on mega-tunes by the likes of FKA twigs, Jamie xx, and Fatboy Slim, as well as a raw take on a homegrown anthem.
