The city of Paris was hit by a string of terrorist attacks on Friday night, including a hostage situation that broke out at a sold-out performance by the band Eagles of Death Metal.

As Consequence of Sound reports, while initial estimates had the death toll at least 60 and many more injured, according to the AFP, “around 100” people were killed inside the Bataclan music venue.

According to CNN, witnesses from inside the Bataclan said there were between six to eight attackers, who engaged in a shootout with police, which ended in the death of two terrorists.

Hostages told the news outlet that the terrorists “calmly executed hostages, reloaded, executed again in silence”. No members of Eagles of Death Metal were killed or injured, however.

Eagles of Death Metal is a collaboration between guitarist and vocalist Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, frontman of Queens of the Stone Age. However, Homme did not join the band on their European tour.

“We are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation,” Eagles of Death Metal wrote on Facebook.

French band Red Lemons posted their own Facebook statement, saying they were outside the venue with the members of Eagles of Death Metal when the attack took place and “they’re safe”.
