Remi Angrily Calls Out Australian Border Security For Racial Profiling

Melbourne emcee Remi has hit out at airport border security for racially profiling bandmate Sensible J, aka Justin Smith, in a fiery rant posted to his Facebook account. In the post, Remi singles out London’s Heathrow airport and Melbourne’s Tullamarine.

“Just because he’s got a fucking beard doesn’t mean he’s even Islamic let alone a terrorist,” Remi writes alongside an image of Smith. “Anybody whose [sic] got fucking problem with my man’s appearance can suck my dick.”

“I’m looking at you Tullamarine, Heathrow, and any predominantly white airport with your fucking racial profiling and white privilege. We are fucking people not animals or monsters fuck you!!” Remi and Smith are currently on tour in Europe.

Responding to fans curious about what precipitated the message, Remi added, “When you and your family get shit on, held back and demonised daily for what you look like, under all circumstances, it gets to you.”

“Every body has the right to their own opinions and feelings, yes some of you may not understand where we’re coming from, yes to some of you it may seem trivial and in light of everything that’s going on in the world at the moment, it is.”

“But we are entitled to our own feelings, so please don’t tell us how to act. Don’t tell us we’re crazy cause this shit happens daily, and just be good to the people around you, and don’t judge on appearance.”

Smith offered his personal perspective, replying to fans in the comments section of Remi’s post. “I do know what I look like, and I 100 percent understand why I get ‘racially profiled’ (doesn’t mean I have to like it),” he wrote.

“Just simply speak nicely to me. That is all I hope for. Many security personnel do. Some don’t. Today I got pretty mad at the airport from a super rude person (dude wanted to know where I was really from when I told him I’m from Australia).”

“I know there’s waaaaaay bigger problems in the world than my lil feelings. No more hate.” After completing their European run, Remi and Sensible J will head to the UK for three dates supporting Hiatus Kaiyote.
