High On Fire have long commanded a reputation as one of the must-see bands in heavy metal. Known for their primordial mix of guttural, sludgy riffs and driving grooves, this February will see the Matt Pike-led outfit return to Australian shores.

Having released several seminal albums with his ’90s doom outfit Sleep, Pike has carried the torch of heavy metal first lit by the likes of Black Sabbath into the new millennium the way only he could, zig-zagging across continents with non-stop albums and tours.

Aided by bassist Jeff Matz and drummer Des Kensel, Pike’s volcanic sounds on the live stage are a must-see experience for heavy metal fans and indeed fans of any genre. They’ll even have a new album in tow, the explosive Luminiferous.

This is the sound of one of the twenty-first century’s best heavy bands, and there are few signs that they are going to be anything less than that for some time to come. – Drowned in Sound

“Lyrically, I think this is the album that’s going to basically get secret people to shoot me,” Pike told Rolling Stone in the weeks leading up to Luminiferous’ release. “Dude, I say a lot of fucked-up shit!”
