This week has seen members of the metalcore community rallying around Los Angeles outfit The Ghost Inside, who survived a fatal vehicle collision after their tour bus crashed into a semi-truck just east of El Paso, Texas.

While all five band members and the members of their crew survived the incident, with some sustaining injuries, their bus driver and the passengers in the other vehicle involved in the crash did not make it.

Among those who’ve come out to show their support for The Ghost Inside are UK favourites Bring Me The Horizon, who donated $10,000 worth of their merchandise sales to help pay for the band’s medical expenses.

Now, Aussies In Hearts Wake have joined the cause, sharing a heartfelt message detailing their relationship with The Ghost Inside and a commitment to donating 100 percent of the proceeds from one of their shirts to the band.

“The Ghost Inside have invited us into their own homes, gifted us a hotel room when we couldn’t afford one, delivered our van diesel when we ran dry out in the middle of the desert, offered us our first US tour when we didn’t have one…” In Hearts Wake write.

“[They] performed guest vocals on Skydancer, and have since become some of the best friends any Australians could ever ask for. We love these guys from the bottom of our hearts and we want to help them out in any way possible after their bus crash tragedy.”

It’s not the first time that In Hearts Wake have lent their name and efforts to a good cause. In fact, taking a look at their track record, the Byron Bay outfit appear to be one of Australia’s most charitable bands.

Of course, before we take a look at some of their achievements it’s important to remember that Australia has more than its fair share of charitable bands and artists, like Melbourne punks Wolfpack who operate as a ‘non-profit band’.

The release of the In Hearts Wake’s latest album, Skydancer saw them partnering with Local Futures, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and renewal of ecological and social well being at a local, tangible level.

The Skydancer campaign also included an auction of In Hearts Wake items, as well as items donated by other bands such as The Amity Affliction and The Ghost Inside, with the proceeds going to Local Futures and BYRA, which ensures the protection of the band’s hometown on an environmental and social level.

It wasn’t the first time the band decided to use an album campaign to raise awareness for a good cause. To promote preceding album Earthwalker, In Hearts Wake worked with Carbon Neutral to plant a tree for every Earthwalker album preordered via 24Hundred.net.

The result was 1,379 trees planted in Preston Waters, WA. We don’t just think that makes In Hearts Wake one of Australia’s most charitable bands, but a shining example for others bands to follow.
